“To be, or not to be” – Hamlet comes to Elmberg

Vienna’s English Theatre showed students how a classic story still has an important message.

The fourth and fifth grade students at our school had the privilege of seeing a modern rendition of Shakespeare’s classic, “Hamlet.” This version contained fewer roles and simplified language, cutting the original three-hour performance to a one-hour version. The author of the play also focused on the theme of mental health and advocated for looking out for others.

The play was performed by one actress and three actors, whose energy and surprise musical talent helped to introduce the important theme in an accessible manner. Prior to seeing the performance, students had a chance in class to not only learn about the original, but also to act out the version they were to see. Elmberg is also looking forward to welcoming another school tour of Vienna’s English Theatre for “The Other Side of Goodbye” in the second term.
